Purple Don’t Cry!

A misguided young man ignores the wise advice of a gang leader and starts selling drugs to achieve his dreams of a luxury lifestyle; but he soon realizes that quick money comes with deadly consequences.

At its core, “Purple Don’t Cry” is a coming-of-age tragedy. It’s a film that puts the viewer through many heartbreaks, but it also ends on a positive note. I wanted to create a film that was honest and real, but that also left the audience with a sense of hope. One of the things that’s most important to me about this film is the portrayal of Muslims in the culture industry. All too often, Muslims are portrayed as one-dimensional characters with no complexity or depth. I wanted to create a character that was multidimensional and full of human contradictions. I wanted to show that Muslims are just like anyone else – we’re complex, flawed, and capable of both good and bad
